Hi Kevin,

Your collection is great! Can you post some of the photos in your Micurio account too?

Kevin,

This weekend at an Antiques show, I saw a Roman die from the first or second century AD. It was really beautiful and interesting. The owner said it was made of lead. What more can you tell us or show us in your collections about ancient dice?

Thanks.

SHOW:

</a>

TELL:

Dice have been around for a VERY long time ... Roman dice are new compared to the truly ancient ones ... It is possible the one you saw was an original ... but with the number of 'genuine ancient roman lead dice' for sale on ebay ... it is probable that it is a copy

The one we saw at the flea market looked similar to the 2nd Century Persian die shown in your link. How much would one of those be worth?

Unknown ... as Lead is very easy to age ... it could be an original (expensive) ... or it could be a copy (nearly worthless)

The 2nd century Persian one is bronze ... and is an original (as far as I know)

Link doesn't work for some reason. Try putting it on its own line. Maybe that will work.

I have noticed that the site is clipping off the last character of URL's ... <a href="http://www.dicecollector.com/MINT1_PERSIAN_BRONZE_01.jpg" target="_blank">http://www.dicecollector.com/MINT1_PERSIAN_BRONZE_01.jpg

I got it to work but I had to add a G at the end - the site was clipping it. I'll add that to our list of fixes.

So what are some of the main dice collecting events each year? Are there conventions? Any clubs you could recommend? I would be fun to get a couple more people in the category and using this forum.

Sorry for the delay ... Strange that you mention conventions ... I am currently attending the largest gaming (dice collecting) convention in the US (Gen Con Indy 2007)

I've heard of Gen Con. I didn't realize it was the largest for gaming. Is there much vintage/antique stuff there or is it mainly for newer games?

Sounds good

Gen Con Indianapolis and Origins Gaming conventions are where most companies release their new dice

>> Are there conventions?

Not per se ... (see above)

The Dice Maniacs' Club

Great info. Thanks Kevin. Maybe we could by getting one or two of your friends to participate in this thread.

The convention info helps. Next year we'll probably set up at a few conventions. At the moment Micurio is in heavy development. Within the next couple weeks we'll be adding a classified section, September the subcategories and in October the buy/sell/trade component. In the meantime we'll be updating the design of the home page to include more images of collections and redesigning the myMicurio page to work more like a MySpace/Facebook user main page.

Kind of off topic but ..

<a href="http://www.dicecollector.com/CONVENTIONS/GENCON_2007.html" target="_blank">http://www.dicecollector.com/CONVENTIONS/GENCON_2007.html</a>

Attending Gen Con would be a good way to attact other collectors ... as a LOT of collectors of all types attend
